Manifesto

Introduction

Strong leadership, A clear Vision, A Prosperous and More Secure Future

We, the representatives of The Constituency of Northeast Saint Ann, pledge our commitment to the progress, prosperity, and well-being of our community. This 5-year manifesto outlines our comprehensive vision for the future and the initiatives we aim to undertake to address the needs and aspirations of our constituents. Through collaboration, innovation, and inclusive governance, we will strive to create a constituency that thrives in all aspects of life.

Tourism and Economic Development:

With a focus on transforming Ocho Rios into the tourism capital of Jamaica, we will implement initiatives for beautification and the development of attractions such as the White River in Exchange and Duns River Falls. Additionally, we will prioritize safety and security measures to ensure a positive and secure experience for both residents and tourists.

Haile Selassie believed, “Tourism is a key factor in the development of our economy.

Business Hub and Empowerment

We will promote St. Ann, including Ocho Rios, Draxhall, and St. Ann’s Bay, as the business hub of the north coast. By attracting investment, fostering entrepreneurship, and creating job opportunities, we will drive economic growth and provide a platform for the success of local businesses.

Michael Manley believed in “democratizing the economy and freeing it from the grip of foreign interests.”

Job Opportunities and Local Empowerment:

We will prioritize trained and qualified Jamaican residents of Northeast Saint Ann for mid and top-level positions in hotels, ensuring that employment opportunities directly benefit our constituents and contribute to the growth of the local economy.

Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba stated, “Africa is a continent with abundant resources; let us make her the powerhouse of the world by investing in her people.”

To encourage entrepreneurship and local business development, we will establish an angel investment program. This program will provide financial support to small startups and entrepreneurs with great ideas, helping them overcome the barriers of limited startup capital and excessive bureaucracy, while making substantial contributions to the local economy and generating employment opportunities for the constituency.

Bob Marley once said, “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.”

Community Safety and Services:

“To ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, we will establish volunteer fire fighters and EMTs, along with strategically located fire stations in communities. This will ensure timely emergency response, protect lives, and safeguard property during fire emergencies.”

Malcolm X once remarked, “Concerning nonviolence, it is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself when he is the constant victim of brutal attacks.”

We will strengthen social services in rural communities by providing access to doctors, nurses, teachers, counselors, and community police. By extending these vital services, we aim to improve the overall well-being of our residents, address healthcare disparities, and foster a strong sense of community.”

Michael Manley believed that “social justice must be established as the foundation of the new Jamaica.”

Education and Scholarships

Recognizing that education is the key to a brighter future, we will implement a high school tuition subsidy for Northeast Saint Ann residents. This initiative will reduce the financial burden on families, ensuring that every child has equal access to quality education.

Nelson Mandela once stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

In partnership with businesses in the tourism, food and beverage, medical, and agriculture industries, we will offer full college/university scholarships for residents pursuing careers that will benefit our constituency. These scholarships will not only support their academic aspirations but also provide job preferences upon completion, ensuring that our constituents are well-positioned for meaningful employment.”

Patrice Emery Lumumba believed, “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.”

 Sustainable Economic Development:

We will cut up government lands into farming plots and offer them at affordable rent, enabling residents to engage in agriculture and grow from a predefined on-demand list of crops. This initiative will promote self-sufficiency, sustainable farming practices, and support the local agricultural industry.”
Marcus Garvey once said, “We must become producers instead of mere consumers.”

Youth, Sports, and Technology

To empower our youth, we will establish youth empowerment summer camps and youth clubs, providing them with opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and skills acquisition. Additionally, we will establish fully operational community centers that serve as safe spaces for educational, recreational, and cultural activities.

Marcus Harvey once said, “We have to build our own power. We have to win every war with every ethnic group against us.”

Recognizing the importance of technology in the modern world, we will establish technology labs in Northeast Saint Ann, providing youth with opportunities to learn coding, artificial intelligence, and computer hardware repairs. By equipping them with these valuable skills, we will empower them for future employment and foster technological innovation within our constituency.”

Malcolm X once stated, “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”

Black Uplifting, Nationalism, and Pan Afro-Caribbeanism:

As representatives of the people, we embrace the ideals of black uplifting and empowerment. We will work to uplift our constituents and foster a strong sense of Jamaican nationalism, celebrating our rich cultural heritage and promoting unity within our diverse community.

Bob Marley once said, “In this great future, you can’t forget your past.

We draw inspiration from the wisdom of Marcus Harvey, Malcolm X, Michael Manley, Nelson Mandela, Patrice Emery Lumumba, Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, Haile Selassie, and Bob Marley. Their words guide us in our pursuit of justice, equality, and progress for all.

Marcus Harvey once said, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.”
